Here we are, at the end of this epic road — “Fifty Shades Freed” is here, bringing the rather spectacular “Fifty Shades” movie trilogy to a close at long last. If you’re a fan of this franchise (as I am), it’s a bittersweet moment. I, for one, wish they would keep making these movies forever. Alas, they’ve run out of books to adapt.
As the credits on “Fifty Shades Freed” start to roll, you may find yourself sitting there stunned. Is that it? Is it really over? Could there possibly be one more juicy morsel of sexy content in store after the credits? I can’t imagine I’ll be alone in having that internal monologue after the movie ended. “Fifty Shades Darker” included a teaser for “Freed” after the credits, but obviously there are no more movies in the series. But, hey, maybe they shot one last goodbye for the fans, or so I hoped.
There is one little postscript scene on “Fifty Shades Freed,” but it happens so soon after the credits roll that you almost certainly won’t have had time to leave the theater before it begins. I won’t spoil exactly what it is, but it’s the same as the final scene from the book — a little extra nugget giving you a glimpse at the life of Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) and Christian (Jamie Dornan) a couple years after the events of the movies. After that scene, there is sadly nothing else after the credits.
We, of course, always encourage movie viewers to stay for the credits, but if you need to hit the bathroom or are otherwise in a rush, you can feel safe knowing that there’s nothing to wait for after the credits conclude.
Ah, such is life. We’ll have to be content with the joy of seeing the finale of possibly the greatest guilty pleasure movie trilogies in all its glory on the big screen as God intended.
