Farley Granger, Star of Hitchcock Films, Dead at 85

Screen idol-turned-Broadway star dies of natural causes

Farley Granger, an actor known for his rolls in several Alfred Hitchcock films, has died. He was 85.

Granger passed away Sunday at his home in Manhattan.

As a teenager, Granger signed with the legendary film producer Samuel Goldwyn, who "discovered him on stage in a Hollywood play and committed him to a seven-year contract beginning at $100 a week," according to a Los Angeles Times profile.

He starred in Hitchcock’s 1948 thriller "Rope" opposite James Stewart. Granger was also featured in Hitchcock's 1951 psychological thriller "Strangers on a Train."
