A “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” sequel written by J.K. Rowling will hit theaters in 2018, Warner Bros. announced on Thursday.
Set for release on November 16, 2018, the second “Fantastic Beasts” movie will move deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and the other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.
David Yates will return to direct the sequel, after directing this year’s “Fantastic Beasts” as well as the final four “Harry Potter” movies.
Rowling, David Heyman, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram will produce. Neil Blair, Rick Senat and Danny Cohen will serve as executive producers.
The first “Fantastic Beasts” film, coming out on November 18, was Rowling’s screenwriting debut. Starring Eddie Redmayne, Colin Farrell, Catherine Waterston and Jon Voight, the movie is based on Rowling’s book of the same name, which was a mock textbook about enchanted beings within Harry Potter’s world.
