‘The Gifted’ First Trailer: Sibling Mutant Powers Show Themselves (Video)

“The X-Men, the Brotherhood — we don’t even know if they exist anymore,” says Eclipse

Fox released its first trailer for its new Marvel mutant drama “The Gifted” Sunday night, showing off the extent of superpowers for the first time and the rest of the cast.

The drama tells the story of a family — led by Reed (Stephen Moyer) and Caitlin (Amy Acker) Strucker — who are sent underground by the revelation that their children Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy (Percy Hynes White) are mutants.

The trailer gives the audience a glimpse into the moment when everything started to crumble — literally. Andy’s powers manifest when he’s being bullied at a school dance. Lauren goes to protect him, also revealing her powers.

The Struckers receive the help of a mutant resistance group that’s, unfortunately, dealing with their own problems. As evidenced by the trailer, it looks like one of their members is in some plastic prison. And from the character descriptions and the setup, that character appears to be Polaris, who has powers over magnetism.

Making matters even more complicated: Reed is a prosecutor in the district attorney’s office tasked with going after mutants. when Caitlin asks her kids why they didn’t tell her about their powers Lauren says that “dad puts people like us in jail.”

An even worse fate it seems would be to run into Sentinel Services, which includes Agent Jace Turner (Coby Bell) and a group of cybernetic spiders.

“The Gifted” is based in the X-Men universe, but as evidenced by the recent film “Logan,” the status of the legendary mutant teams is questionable.

“The X-Men, the Brotherhood — we don’t even know if they exist anymore,” says mutant Marcos Diaz, aka Eclipse.
