Holy Moses! Christian Bale Gets Biblical in First ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ Trailer (Video)

His character Moses prepares to square off against Joel Edgerton’s Ramses in the first trailer for the Ridley Scott epic

Christian Bale‘s Moses is ready for war in the first official trailer for Ridley Scott‘s upcoming Biblical epic, “Exodus: Gods And Kings.”

Released by 20th Century Fox on Tuesday, the trailer sets the stage for a showdown between Moses and Joel Edgerton‘s Ramses, whose main characteristic seems to be his lack of hair and surly disposition.

“You say that you didn’t cause all this,” says Ramses to Moses. “You say that this is not your fault. So let’s just see who’s more effective at killing, you or me.”

If you’re not familiar with the Old Testament, the trailer probably won’t provide much insight as to why the two are fighting. Although an omniscient narrator, who may or may not be co-star Ben Kingsley, offers this up: “When I look at you I still see the two boys who grew up together, close as brothers.”

The trailer’s scariest character, however, might be Mother Nature. She wreaks havoc on ancient Egypt with deadly tornadoes, parting seas, fierce hailstorms and rivers of blood.

In truth, neither Bale nor Edgerton look or sound very ancient or Egyptian in the trailer, but perhaps Scott should be given the benefit of the doubt. The director did, after all, have Russell Crowe — an Australian — speak English with a British accent in “Gladiator.”

As TheWrap previously reported, Scott currently has his hands in another Biblical epic, too. He and 20th Century Fox tapped Jonathan Stokes to pen a script for a big screen re-telling of David versus Goliath.

“Exodus: Gods And Kings,” also starring Aaron Paul and Sigourney Weaver is scheduled to hit theaters Dec. 12.
