Spanish starlet Veronica Echegui will play the female lead opposite Henry Cavill in Summit Entertainment's thriller "The Cold Light of Day," and Emma Hamilton (Cavill's co-star on "The Tudors") has also joined the cast, individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap.
Echegui is an award-winning actress with more than a dozen Spanish film and television credits to her name, while Hamilton is a British actress who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and aside from "The Tudors," is perhaps best known for her stage work in London.
Summit and Intrepid Pictures are co-financing the film, which finds Cavill playing a young American whose family is kidnapped while vacationing in Spain. He's given hours to find them, uncover a government conspiracy and discover the connection between the kidnapping and his father's secrets.
Bruce Willis is playing Cavill's father, while Caroline Goodall recently signed on to play Willis' wife.
Cavill's brother has yet to be cast, though Hamilton will play that character's girlfriend, who is on vacation with the family.
Sigourney Weaver is set to play the villain, a role that was originally written for a male actor, just like Weaver's character in the "Alien" franchise.
Mabrouk El Mechri ("JCVD") directs from a screenplay by John Petro and Scott Wiper, with revisions by Richard Price ("The Color of Money").
Intrepid's Marc D. Evans and Trevor Macy are producing, while Galavis Films principal Jesus Martinez will exec produce with Matthew Perniciaro, Kevin Mann and Wiper. Film Rites' Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch will also exec produce.
"The Cold Light of Day" is scheduled to begin production in September on location in Spain.
