Paul Dano will star opposite Robert De Niro in "Another Night in Suck City," Focus Features' adaptation of Nick Flynn's acclaimed 2004 memoir "Another Bulls**t Night in Suck City," two individuals familiar with the project have confirmed to TheWrap.
"Suck City" explored the author's reunion with his estranged father, an alcoholic resident of the homeless shelter where Flynn worked as a social worker in the late '80s. Flynn's father was a delusional conman and self-proclaimed poet, and the title refers to his description of homeless life in Boston.
Paul Weitz is directing the film from his own screenplay and producing "Another Night" through his company Depth of Field, whose Andrew Miano will also produce, along with Michael Costigan's Corduroy Films and De Niro's Tribeca Prods.
Tribeca's Jane Rosenthal and Meghan Lyvers will exec produce with Caroline Baron and Depth of Field's Kerry Kohansky.
A previous incarnation of the project was set up at Fox 2000 with Casey Affleck loosely attached to star.
Dano next stars in Kelly Reichardt's Sundance-bound western "Meek's Cutoff." He recently wrapped the indie drama "For Ellen," as well as a supporting role in Jon Favreau's upcoming tentpole "Cowboys & Aliens." Dano is also preparing to co-star in Rian Johnson's sci-fi thriller "Looper."
Dano is represented by CAA and Industry Entertainment.
