Exclusive: FX Shows the Love for ‘Archer’

Cable network nearly doubles its episode order for Adam Reed’s buzzworthy new animated comedy.

FX is giving a big vote of confidence to new half-hour "Archer" — and the series hasn’t even premiered yet.

The network is nearly doubling its episodic order for the animated spy show, adding four more episodes to its original commitment of six half-hours. That brings to 10 the total number of episodes FX has greenlit.

"Archer" doesn’t have an official premiere date yet, though the network has said it plans to bow the series in January. It’s part of a wave of comedies in the works at FX, which is also moving forward with "The League" and "The Louie CK Show."

FX first signaled its belief in "Archer" a few weeks ago by ordering more scripts for the show. That led to the episodic pickup.

In addition, FX quietly gave the show an unannounced sneak preview behind the season premiere of "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia" last month.

"Archer," created by Adam Reed & Floyd County Prods., is from FX Prods. The series revolves around a smooth spy (Jon Benjamin), his ex-girlfriend and current partner (Aisha Tyler) and his tough-as-nails mom (Jessica Walter). Chris Parnell and Judy Greer are also part of the voice cast.
