"Boogie Nights" and "Magnolia" star Philip Baker Hall has joined the cast of 20th Century Fox's family comedy "Mr. Popper's Penguins," an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

Jim Carrey stars in the film, which follows a high-powered New York businessman who inherits six penguins. The lovable creatures proceed to disrupt his personal and professional life, and in the process, teach him the importance of family and friendship.

Hall will play Franklin, a deep-pocketed, no-nonsense investor who agrees to finance the title character's wacky schemes.

Andrew Stewart-Jones has also joined the cast as Daryl, Mr. Popper's doorman who learns of his new winged roommates and threatens to report him to his building's management, his manager has confirmed to TheWrap.

Carla Gugino and rising starlet Ophelia Lovibond were previously cast as Mr. Popper's wife and personal assistant, respectively.

Mark Waters is directing the modern adaptation of Richard and Florence Atwater's award-winning 1938 children's book. Davis Entertainment's John Davis is producing the project, which is currently in production in New York.

Best known for his pitch-perfect collaborations with director Paul Thomas Anderson, Hall most recently co-starred in the cheerleading comedy "Fired Up!" Hall also recently wrapped a role as Judge Julius Hoffman in "The Chicago 8." On the small screen, the 79-year-old actor has appeared in recent episodes of "Warren the Ape" and HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "The Life & Times of Tim."

Stewart-Jones has previously appeared in episodes of "Sex and the City" and "One Life to Live." He was last seen on the big screen as a restaurant host in "It's Complicated."
