Fox will be televising Super Bowl XLV on Feb. 6, 2011, from Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, but that won't stop ESPN from making a big Super Bowl coverage splash of its own.
The all-sports cable network has chosen to make downtown Fort Worth, about a 10-minute drive from the Super Bowl site, its weeklong pre-Super Bowl broadcast and radio location.
ESPN will devote more than 80 hours of television to the Super Bowl, in addition to ESPN Radio shows and other related content across ESPN's media platforms, and it all will be based out of Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth. All on-site telecasts will be open to the public.
Among the ESPN programs originating from Sundance Square beginning Monday, Jan. 31, will be daily editions of "Mike & Mike in the Morning," "SportsCenter" and "NFL Live," as well as a special three-hour edition of "Sunday NFL Countdown" on Super Bowl Sunday.
ESPN the Magazine also will hold its annual NEXT event, its annual Super Bowl party, in Fort Worth.
Sundance Square is a 35-block commercial, residential, entertainment and retail district, named after the legendary Sundance Kid.
ESPN will construct an outdoor TV set for its live broadcasts; a separate ESPN Radio set also will be built, as well as a demonstration field.
