If the Green Goblin, Electro, and Rhino don’t come between Peter Parker and love interest Gwen Stacy in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” then it sounds like the Atlantic Ocean will.
A new featurette from the film (above) dives into the relationship between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone‘s characters, and director Marc Webb reveals a major source of conflict arises between the two when valedictorian Stacy is offered a scholarship to Oxford University.

That’s right. Even though she’s dating a superhero, the character Stone describes as “grown up” still has “dreams” and “goals” of her own.
“She’s not waiting around for Peter Parker to decide if he can be with her or not be with her,” producer Matt Tolmach explains.

As many fans have speculated, and the trailers have suggested, whether or not she makes it out of the Sony sequel alive is still up in the air.
