As Emmy campaign season and temperatures heats up, TheWrap caught up with the popular cast of Fox’s “Empire” before they took the stage for “A Performance Under the Stars at The Grove” in Los Angeles, and with summer just around the corner we needed to know what jams get the actors pumped for the season.
Kaitlin Doubleday, who plays Rhonda Lyon on the musical drama, elected for Mariah Carey‘s 1995-hit “Always Be My Baby.” The actress did not hold back belting out the song on the gold carpet, catching the attention of nearby cast mate Taraji P. Henson (Cookie Lyon). “You better sing!” Henson cheered.
As for Henson, she channeled her inner-Lyon family spirit and rapped a few lines from her summer choice, Kendrick Lamar’s “King Kunta.” Bryshere Gray, who plays Henson’s son, Hakeem Lyon, cheekily chose one of his own Empire songs, “Drip Drop.”
Watch the stars take on their songs of summer.
