Toronto Deals: Elliott Gould Starrer ‘Fred Won’t Move Out’ Set for U.S. Release

Virgil Films has picked up the U.S. rights to “Fred Won’t Move Out,” with Elliott Gould starring in a  intergenerational story shot in the director's own childhood home

Virgil Films has acquired the U.S. rights to the Elliott Gould starrer “Fred Won’t Move Out,” the company announced in Toronto on Friday.

Written and directed by Richard Ledes, the film was shot in Ledes' childhood home in Westchester County, New York.  

The semi-autobiographical story follows two grown children who have to decide what to do when it appears that their parents are no longer better off staying in the family home in which they have lived for fifty years.

The film opens theatrically in New York on September 21 at BAM Rose Cinemas, followed by a multi-city rollout in Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle and Phoenix, among others. A release on digital platforms and DVD will follow.

Virgil distributed Ledes' 2008 feature, “The Caller,” which also starred Gould. Other films from Ledes include “A Hole in One,” starring Michelle Williams, and the forthcoming “Foreclosure,” with Michael Imperioli.
