The first official trailer for “The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 3 dropped Wednesday, with Elisabeth Moss’ Offred still stuck in Gilead and working to change the country from within.
Last season, Offred — or June — chose to remain in Gilead after being given an opportunity to escape with her newborn child, and now she’s feeling the consequences of that choice.
“At least there’s hope if I’m still here,” Offred says in the trailer for the award-winning Hulu series that returns on June 3.
In the footage, we can see Offred nudging Mrs. Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) to take a larger role in the politics of the country, and we even see her being given a seat at the literal table in a board meeting full of other men. But Offred is also being tried for “Heresy” rather than serving the resistance, because in Gilead’s mind, the resistance doesn’t officially exist.
The trailer ends with Offred looking out over an army of handmaids in front of what used to be the Washington Monument, now a massive cross overlooking the national mall in DC. We also catch glimpses of Bradley Whitford’s character, who made a small but important cameo in the end of Season 2, as well as the return of Ann Dowd’s Aunt Lydia and Samira Wiley and O-T Fagbenle living life up in Canada.
Finally, Hulu has a release date set for June 5 for the return of their critically acclaimed drama. Watch the new trailer via Twitter below:
