“Twilight Saga: Eclipse” grossed $24.2 million on Thursday, its second day in release, bringing its North American theatrical total to $92.8 million, according to studio estimates.
That trails the two-day pace of previous installment “New Moon,” which grossed nearly $115 million on a premiere Friday and ensuing Saturday last November.
“Eclipse” is also playing in a record 4,416 theaters, compared to just the 4,024 that “New Moon” opened up with.
"Eclipse" was conservatively predicted to gross $150 million through the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Paramount's "The Last Airbender" premiered with a first day total of over $16 million. The action fantasy is on track to take second place over the holiday weekend with a $45 million to $60 million gross.
