The “House of DVF” and “The Royals” will both return to E! for second seasons.
The cable channel has given a second season to the reality show and its first scripted series, the network said Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena.
While “House of DVF” was low-rated, E! finds its younger-skewing audience and high-end association with Diane von Furstenberg as a reason to bring the show back for another season. E! reports the docu-series was a Top 5 program among Women 18-34 on Sundays at 10 p.m. in its first season run.
Produced by Electus and Hud:sun Media, “House” is executive produced by Chris Grant, Michael Rourke, Mioshi Hill, Corie Henson, Lenid Rolov and von Furstenberg.
Ahead of its March 15 premiere, E!’s first scripted series “The Royals” renewal arrives as Lionsgate joins as a co-producer. That helps to mitigate the cost of producing a show. These kind of early renewals are typically meant to show confidence in a show and encourage viewers to tune in.
“To renew this freshman series before its highly anticipated first season premiere underscores E!’s commitment to the scripted genre and our confidence and support of this groundbreaking and rule-breaking original series,” said E!’s Original Programming & Development executive vice president, Jeff Olde, in a statement.
He continued, “We’re thrilled to have Universal Cable Productions joining Lionsgate as a co-producing partner as we announce a second season pick-up for this scandalously fun series.’”
The hourlong drama follows the misadventures of a fictional modern day royal family. Its stars Elizabeth Hurley, William Moseley, Alexandra Park and Vincent Regan.
