Dwayne Johnson is every bit the hero he portrays in his action movies. This week, the “Ballers” star and WWE alum rescued Kelly Clarkson from a harrowing situation: being guest-less on the very first episode of her new daytime talk show.
The Rock’s buddy Kevin Hart was set to be the surprise first guest on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” That is, until he was in a serious car wreck in Calabasas in the early morning hours on Sunday, suffering back injuries.
“Because Kevin couldn’t be here, one of his good friends stepped the heck up and I love him,” an emotional Clarkson said during her debut taping, “because I got real nervous for my first show.”
Johnson actually left his honeymoon to fill in for his “Jumanji” co-star.
“His wife probably hates me,” Clarkson said while setting up the appearance.
The audience sure didn’t.

The actual episode airs on Sept. 9.
According to KABC Los Angeles, the California Highway Patrol says that Hart was riding as a passenger in his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda when the driver lost control of the car, causing it to veer off the road and roll into an embankment. Hart’s wife, Eniko Parrish, told TMZ on Monday that the comedian was awake and is “going to be just fine.”
