‘Dragon’ Soars to Top of DVD Charts

Critically reviled “Jonah Hex” also debuts strongly

A pair of family oriented films carved up the DVD rental and sales charts last week. In its first week of release, “How to Train Your Dragon” took first place on the sales chart and the third spot on the rental side of things, according to Rentrak.

Meanwhile “The Karate Kid” topped the rental charts and became the week’s second most rented disc in its sophomore week.

Other summer hits such as “Iron Man 2” and “Robin Hood” continued to perform strongly despite having been on the charts for three and four weeks respectively.

The tin suited superhero took third and fifth place on the sales and rental charts. The sharpshooting medieval vigilante was the seventh best selling and fourth most rented disc.

Also debuting last week was the critically reviled comic book adaptation “Jonah Hex.” The disfigured soldier of fortune packed enough wallop to claim fourth place on the sales chart and sixth place on the rental end despite the fact that it is almost universally loathed.

Next week brings the release of horror franchise reboot “Predators” and the indie comedy “Please Give.”
