The Jan. 6 select committee unanimously voted Thursday to subpoena Donald Trump, after damning new evidence from the Secret Service was presented in their latest hearing. And if the twice impeached president does come in to testify, Seth Meyers is pretty sure it’ll look a lot like brining in a wild animal.
Granted, the late night host is a little skeptical that Trump will even comply with a subpoena at all. But if and when he does, he expects that it’ll be truly “insane.”
“Now they subpoenaed him, but can you imagine Donald Trump complying with a subpoena from the January 6 committee? Watching him testify before congress would be insane,” Meyers joked. “He’d go on all sorts of insane rants, and attack people. It would be like casting an actual lion in ‘The Lion King.’ Yeah, it was cool for a second, but then he clawed Rudy Giuliani’s face off.”
Meyers then turned his attention to a campaign stop Trump made over the weekend, during which he complained that the media doesn’t focus enough on how big the crowd was on Jan. 6. He called the media “corrupt” again, because they “will never take a camera and turn it around and show them how many people are here.”
Of course, that statement is incorrect because there was indeed ample footage of the attacks on the Capitol, showing just how many people were illegally entering and destroying the building. And Meyers didn’t hesitate to point that out to Trump, arguing that the twice impeached president’s claim does give some new insight.
“There’s never been better proof that Trump isn’t watching the January 6 hearings than him saying you see very few pictures of it,” Meyers mocked. “Dude, they’re showing pictures of it all the time!”
