Internet Mocks Trump for Chris Brown Tweet After President Defends Rob Porter

In the latest installment of there’s a tweet for everything, a 2012 musing from President Trump has begun to make the rounds online.

After defending his former staff secretary Rob Porter — who resigned Wednesday amid accusations of domestic violence by two former wives — Twitter sleuths found an old tweet from Trump about Chris Brown and his former girlfriend, Rihanna. In 2009, a 19-year-old Brown pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault on the pop star.

“If @rihanna is dating @chrisbrown again then she has a death wish,” Trump wrote “A beater is always a beater–just watch!”

The “beater is always a beater” line was a far cry from the position Trump staked out in the Oval Office Friday when asked about his former staff secretary.

“He says he’s innocent and I think you have to remember that,” said Trump.

“We wish him well. He worked very hard. I found out about it recently and I was surprised by it. But we certainly wish him well, it’s obviously a tough time for him,” Trump added. “He did a very good job when he was in the White House and we hope he has a wonderful career. It was very sad when we heard about it and certainly he’s also very sad.”

The Internet went to town — with CNN’s Jake Tapper leading the way.
