The Donald Trump firing line continued Wednesday, as Macy’s dropped his merchandise line from its stores nationwide.
“We have no tolerance for discrimination in any form,” a company spokesperson told CNN. Macy’s full statement said Trump’s comments are inconsistent with the department store’s values.
“We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation,” Macy’s said Wednesday.
“In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004.”
The department store received over 700,000 signatures on a petition to drop Trump’s merchandise after the presidential candidate sparked a firestorm for comments demeaning Mexicans as rapists and drug lords.
Those comments have led both Univision and NBC to part ways with the real estate tycoon, leaving Miss USA without a television home. Trump is fighting back; he sued Univision Tuesday for $500 million.
