‘Doctor Who’ Trailer: ‘All of This Is New’ to 13th Doctor Jodie Whittaker (Video)

San Diego Comic-Con 2018: First female Time Lord is looking for some new best friends

Whovians, please give a warm welcome to your 13th Doctor, Jodie Whittaker. Because based on the official trailer for the upcoming season of BBC America’s “Doctor Who,” she’s going to need it.

The 40-second video — presented during the show’s panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 on Thursday — features Whittaker taking over the titular role as the first woman to play Britain’s iconic Time Lord, along with her co-stars Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole.

Offering a taste of what’s in store for viewers this fall, the Season 11 trailer sees the 13th Doctor and her new friends, Ryan Sinclair (Cole), Yasmin Khan (Gill) and Graham O’Brien (Walsh), traveling through space and time.

“All of this is new to me,” Whittaker says in a voiceover, noting that she’s going to need some help to find her place in this world. “New faces. New worlds. New times. So if I asked really, really nicely, would you be my new best friends?”

Last December, at the end of the “Doctor Who” Christmas special “Twice Upon a Time,” Whittaker became the 13th Time Lord, fulfilling the destiny that had laid before her since her casting as the next Doctor was announced in July. Fans were introduced to Whittaker as the new Time Lord, when Peter Capaldi (the actor who has filled the role of the 12th Doctor since 2013) regenerated into the very first female lead in the show’s 50-plus year run.

Season 11 of “Doctor Who” will premiere on BBC and BBC America this October.
