Discovery+ has made a series of technical improvements as the streamer migrates to the same in-house infrastructure that powers Max.

The new features include enhanced personalization recommendations, a refined homepage and navigation, improvements to in-player discovery to effortlessly switch between episodes and personalized content recommendations within the video player, sign-in via QR code and a share button on the mobile app that will allow adult profile users to easily share show recommendations via text or social media.

“This is a huge win, not only for our internal teams but also for our subscribers,” Warner Bros. Discovery chief technology officer Avi Saxena said in a statement. “We’ve been driving rapid innovation across our platforms, and now, all of our streaming products will benefit from a richer feature set. A singular unified platform has been central to our technology strategy, and this marks a major milestone in that journey.”

The product updates and improvements come as Warner Bros. Discovery, which reported 116.9 million direct-to-consumer subscribers in its fourth quarter of 2024, forecast it will reach at least 150 million globally by 2026.

In addition to Max’s continued international expansion, WBD said it would focus on strategic distribution partnerships and driving higher penetration in existing markets with its ad-supported tier.

For the full year 2024, WBD’s streaming profit was $677 million, up from a profit of $103 million in 2023. It anticipates the streaming segment will deliver a profit of approximately $1.3 billion in 2025.
