The directors of “Mad Men,” “Homeland,” “Downton Abbey,” “Game of Thrones” and “The Knick” have been nominated for best directorial achievement in a dramatic television series by the Directors Guild of America, the DGA announced on Wednesday.
In the comedy series category, the nominees were directors of “Veep,” “Louie,” “Silicon Valley,” “Modern Family” and “Transparent.”
The nominated directors include a number of show creators: Jill Soloway for “Transparent,” Mike Judge for “Silicon Valley,” Louis C.K. for “Louie,” Matthew Weiner for “Mad Men” and Steven Soderbergh for “The Knick.”
The DGA also announced its nominees for documentary feature directing: Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi for “Meru,” Liz Garbus for “What Happened, Miss Simone?,” Alex Gibney for “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief,” Matthew Heineman for “Cartel Land” and Asif Kapadia for “Amy.”
Other nominees included actress-turned-director Angela Bassett for the Lifetime movie “Whitney”; Paul Haggis for the HBO miniseries “Show Me a Hero”; Ryan McFaul and Amy Schumer for an episode of “Inside Amy Schumer“; Sofia Coppola for the Netflix special “A Very Murray Christmas”; and Chris Rock for the stand-up special “Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo.”
