After singing the national anthem at the Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons football game, singer Rico LaVelle concluded his performance by taking a knee and raising his microphone, adding to the protests that have been seen at games throughout the NFL on Sunday.
The protests come after Donald Trump criticized athletes who do not stand for the national anthem, calling on owners to fire or suspend such athletes. Eight members of the Detroit Lions kneeled during the anthem, while the rest of the team locked arms with coaches, staff and team owner Martha Ford.
