Gru learns for the first time that he has a long-lost twin, putting him back in touch with his childlike side in the latest “Despicable Me 3” trailer.

In the upcoming film, Gru (Steve Carrell) meets his blonde twin Dru (also Steve Carrell), who convinces him to get back into the villain business. This comes after the events of the second film, which saw Gru settling down and getting married to Lucy (Kristen Wiig).

“Villainy is in your blood,” Dru tells him as he shows him statues of his ancestors, who all look oddly like the brothers.

Meanwhile, Gru’s daughters and minions (because what would a “Despicable Me” movie be without minions?) learn more about Gru’s family and past. At one point, the minions see a statue of a woman and laugh because it looks like Gru with boobs.

This is the first trailer for the upcoming film that really focuses on Gru’s familial relationships, which have always been a cornerstone of these movies. Past trailers have highlighted his rivalry with Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker) a former child star turned supervillain who wants to dominate the world with his 1980s shtick. In the last trailer, we met Dru, but really only got to see how different Dru is from his more dour brother.

“Despicable Me 3” is set to be released on  June 30. Watch the full trailer above.
