Debra Messing to Co-Star in ABC’s ‘Dirty Dancing’ Remake

“Mysteries of Laura” star to play mother of Abigail Breslin’s character

“Mysteries of Laura” star Debra Messing has been tapped to co-star in ABC’s “Dirty Dancing” remake, TheWrap has confirmed.

The actress will play Marjorie Houseman, mother to Abigail Breslin‘s character, Baby. Kelly Bishop played the character in the original movie.

Produced by Lionsgate TV, the “Dirty Dancing” remake will be a three-hour event with filmed song and dance performances, adapted from the 1987 classic starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

The remake is executive produced by Allison Shearmur and Eleanor Bergstein, who wrote the screenplay for the original movie, with music from Adam Anders and Peer Astrom. Judy Cairo will also serve as producer

Jessica Sharzer wrote the adaptation, and Wayne Blair will direct. Choreography is by “Hamilton’s” Andy Blankenbuehler, and Steven Altman serves as production designer.
