“The Strain” star Jack Kesy has been cast as a key villain in Fox’s “Deadpool 2,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Josh Brolin has already been cast to play the movie’s biggest villain, Cable. “Deadpool 2” will also see the return of Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with the Mouth and his love interest, played by Morena Baccarin.
According to an individual with knowledge of the casting, Kesy will play Black Tom Cassidy. In the comics, he is depicted as an enemy of the X-Men, clashing with Deadpool a number of times. He is a mutant who can manipulate, bond with and project energy through plant life.
“John Wick” co-director David Leitch will direct “Deadpool 2,” which is due to begin filming this summer. Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick confirmed that Colossus (Stefan Kapcic) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) would also reappear.
The first “Deadpool” made over $780 million worldwide, and put Reynolds back on the map as a formidable comedic and action star.
Kesy most recently starred in Dwayne Johnson’s “Baywatch,” “Blood Brother” and “Death Wish.” He is also starring in the TNT show “Claws” opposite Niecy Nash, and also just wrapped a three-year run on “The Strain” for FX.
Kesy is represented by Luber Roklin Entertainment, Paradigm Agency and Dave Feldman.
“Deadpool 2” will hit theaters on June 1, 2018.
