Two-time Academy Award winner Robert De Niro and three-time Oscar nominee Michelle Pfeiffer are in negotiations to join the ensemble cast of New Line's romantic comedy "New Year's Eve," an individual familiar with the project has confirmed to TheWrap.
The duo previously co-starred in Matthew Vaughn's "Stardust," and they'll be joined in the film by "Glee" star Lea Michele and teen actress Abigail Breslin.
Additionally, two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and Ashton Kutcher are said to be circling roles, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which also broke the news of De Niro and Pfeiffer's castings.
Garry Marshall is directing the "Valentine's Day" follow-up, which tells intertwining stories of a group of lovelorn New Yorkers as they navigate their way through romance over the course of New Year's Eve.
De Niro will play a bitter man who is dying in a hospital, while Pfeiffer will play a secretary whose boss denies her request for a two-week vacation.
Should they find time in their busy schedules for the project, Swank would play a producer of Times Square's famed New Year's Eve show, while Kutcher would play a guy who hates the holiday.
Wayne Rice and Mike Karz are producing the picture, which is scheduled to begin production in mid-December in New York.
De Niro recently starred in "Machete," and will next be seen in the Universal comedy "Little Fockers."
Pfeiffer earned strong reviews last year for her performance in Stephen Frears' "Cheri."
De Niro, Pfeiffer, Swank and Kutcher are represented by CAA, while the latter two actors are also repped by Untitled Entertainment. Management 360 also reps Pfeiffer.
