‘Titans’: DC Universe Series Reveals a Very Murderous Batman (Video)

Season finale of DC comics show pits Robin against his former mentor

Is Batman the bad guy?

A teaser for the season finale of “Titans,” the flagship show from the digital subscription service DC Universe, finally shows off its version of the Dark Knight, with an emphasis on the “Dark” part.

In the video, Dick Grayson, aka the former Robin, is visited by Jason Todd (who plays the current version of Batman’s sidekick) and he’s told that he needs to return to Gotham City because Batman is going to kill his arch-nemesis, The Joker. Also, frequent Batman-ally Commissioner Jim Gordon is dead.

After first believing that he can convince Batman not to go through with it, Robin ends up seeing a trail of dead bodies that it is believed were killed by Batman. So now Robin decides he must stop his former mentor, believing that he’s too far gone to be saved.

Batman’s face is never revealed in the trailer, only showing him slicing up criminals from his backside.

“Titans” is based on DC’s long-running young superheroes team “Teen Titans,” which first banded together in 1964 on the pages of DC’s “The Brave and the Bold” in a story by writer Bob Haney and artist Bruno Premiani. Originally consisting of sidekicks Robin, Aqualad and Kid Flash, the team got its own eponymous series in 1966 and has been rebooted several times since with a frequently-changing lineup. The DC Universe series is based in part on the 1980s incarnation of the team created by created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez.

Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are executive producers for the series, which has already been renewed for a second season.
