This weekend’s critically-acclaimed releases, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and Richard Linklater‘s “Boyhood,” appear to be two very different films, but a new trailer mash-up says otherwise.
Using the emotional trailer for “Boyhood” as a template, a Vimeo user has created “Apehood,” which is a “once-in-a-lifetime” fake movie trailer tracing Ceasar’s growth from James Franco‘s pet monkey to the ape leader audiences will see in the sequel to “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.”

Borrowing blurbs from critics praising Linklater’s coming-of-age drama that was filmed over the course of 12 years, “Apehood” is “a masterpiece” and makes fake “cinematic history” as we see Ceasar grow from a baby to a daddy.

Unfortunately, plenty of people will probably skip IFC release “Boyhood,” but don’t skip this parody, because it’s actually the best preview yet of the visually stunning and emotionally complex apes that audiences will see interacting on the big screen this weekend.
