David Slade has been confirmed as the director of the third "Twilight" entry, "Eclipse."
The Summit film, based on the third in the Stephenie Meyer book series, is being written by Melissa Rosenberg. It is slated for release on June 30 of next year.
Slade’s previous efforts include "Hard Candy" and "30 Days of Night."
“Slade is a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise," Meyer said in a statement. "From the beginning, we’ve been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the ‘Twilight’ saga, and I’m so happy that ‘Eclipse’ will be carrying on with that tradition.”
Summit production president Erik Feig said the film "is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds."
The second "Twilight" film, "New Moon," is now filming in Vancouver, directed by Chris Weitz.
