“The Wire” creator David Simon blasted Donald Trump as a “simplistic, racist moron” on Saturday, hours after the president branded Baltimore a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” while criticizing Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings.
Simon, quoting a Trump tweet calling out Cummings, skewered the president as an “empty-suit, race-hating fraud” that would “wet himself” if he spent five minutes in West Baltimore.
If this empty-suit, race-hating fraud had to actually visit West Baltimore for five minutes and meet any of the American citizens who endure there, he’d wet himself. https://t.co/QBSed1S4c8

Simon later expanded on his tweet, saying Trump would be terrified if he “stepped out of his limo and found himself suddenly a racial minority.”
He continued: “The humanity of those he encountered could not matter to him; only their lack of whiteness and his discomfort.”
It means the president, if he stepped out of his limo and found himself suddenly a racial minority, would wet himself on that fundamental alone. The humanity of those he encountered could not matter to him; only their lack of whiteness and his discomfort. So he won't come. https://t.co/kkU8MggT3G

Simon’s flurry of tweets came after the president ripped Cummings — who is the current chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform — as a “brutal bully” on Saturday for his recent criticism of border control agents. Earlier in the month, Cummings pressed Homeland Security chief Kevin McAleenan on the treatment of undocumented immigrants at the border during a House hearing.
On Saturday, Trump tweeted Cummings would be better off focusing on Baltimore than the southern border: “maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.” Cummings’ 7th Maryland district covers about half of Baltimore.
To Simon, Trump’s digs against Baltimore — a city with an African-American population of nearly 63%, according to the U.S. Census — illustrated the president is a “simplistic, racist moron.”
As creator of “The Wire,” which ran for five seasons on HBO, Simon examined several issues that have impacted Baltimore, including police corruption and drug abuse.
