David O. Russell is in talks to rewrite and direct Universal's big screen adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic book "2 Guns," the movie studio has confirmed to TheWrap.
Vince Vaughn is attached to star in the film, which follows a DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who are unwittingly investigating each and who steal mob money for the good guys. They eventually discover that the mob has set them up, and they've stolen $50 million from the CIA.
Marc Platt will produce the project with Boom! co-founders Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie. Universal acquired the property in August 2008 as a potential starring vehicle for Vaughn, who will soon be seen in Universal's "The Dilemma."
Steven Grant wrote the comic (illustrated by Mat Santolouco), while Blake Masters wrote a previous draft of the screenplay.
Russell and Vaughn were previously thinking of collaborating on the dramedy "Old St. Louis." The filmmaker remains attached to direct Columbia's big-budget adaptation of the popular video game "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," which has Mark Wahlberg set to star, possibly with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.
Russell, who is represented by CAA, recently received his first DGA Award nomination for his exceptional work on "The Fighter," which has proved itself as a serious contender to win Best Picture.
