While a fifth season of David Letterman’s Netflix talk show “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” has not yet been confirmed, the streamer announced on Thursday that a special standalone episode with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will air later this year.
The talk show host traveled to Kyiv for the interview with Zelenskyy, who has rallied support around the globe as Ukraine continues to battle the Russian invasion that began in February.
Letterman isn’t the first U.S. celeb to make the trek to talk with Zelenskyy. In June, both Ben Stiller, who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and Sean Penn, who is working on a documentary about the war, visited Ukraine. Both were subsequently banned from Russia.
Zelenskyy had been rumored to make an appearance via videotape at this year’s Oscars, but instead shared a message at the Grammys, where he urged people around the world to continue to support his country and the truth about the war.
Letterman’s previous interviewees over four seasons of “My Next Guest” include President Barack Obama, Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai, JAY-Z, Lizzo, Kim Kardashian and Billie Eilish. The series has been nominated for four Emmys.
“My Next Guest” is produced by Jax Media and Worldwide Pants, Inc.
