David Letterman will be a guest on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on NBC May 23, returning to the show he hosted from 1982 through mid-1993.
Letterman hosted late-night television talk shows for 33 years, beginning with “Late Night with David Letterman” on NBC in 1982. When Johnny Carson retired from “The Tonight Show” in 1992 and Jay Leno took over instead of Letterman, Letterman left NBC to host his own late-night show on CBS called the “Late Show with David Letterman.”
That show debuted in 1993 and ran until May 2015. Stephen Colbert took over after Letterman’s departure.
“Late Night” EP Mike Shoemaker took to Twitter to share the news but got the date wrong.
“It’s Dave’s show and we are just borrowing it. DAVID LETTERMAN will be our guest on Late Night with @sethmeyers on Wednesday May 23rd!” he tweeted.

These days, Letterman is hosting his own talk show for Netflix titled “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman.” It debuted in January, and guests have included Tina Fey, Jay-Z, and former POTUS Barack Obama.
