Dave Franco and Emma Roberts have been set to star in YA novel adaptation “Nerve” for Lionsgate.
The “Catfish” duo of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman will direct the thriller based on the book by Jeanne Ryan. Jessica Sharzer adapted the screenplay.
Story follows good-girl Vee (Roberts), who breaks out of her shell after plunging into an online game of truth-or-dare called “Nerve” with the sexy and mysterious Ian (Franco). However, Vee quickly finds the initial thrills turn dark as the stakes grow increasingly higher and the game turns personal – ultimately revealing just how far she will go to win “Nerve.”
Allison Shearmur is producing, along with Anthony Katagas. Erik Feig, Jeyun Choi and Jessica Switch are overseeing for Lionsgate, while Stephen Meinen, VP at Allison Shearmur Productions, will also be overseeing the production.
Roberts was most recently seen in Gia Coppola’s “Palo Alto” opposite James Franco as well as on FX’s “American Horror Story: Freak Show.” She is repped by CAA and Sweeney Management.
Franco is currently filming “Now You See Me 2” and will next be seen in “Unfinished Business” with Vince Vaughn. He is repped by CAA.
The deal was negotiated for Lionsgate by Robert Melnik and Patricia Laucella.
