Christian Bale, who stars as Batman in "The Dark Knight Rises," expressed his sympathies for the victims of the massacre in Aurora, Colo. on Saturday.
"Words cannot express the horror that I feel,” Bale said in a statement. “I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”
Twelve people have died and dozens were injured when suspected gunman James Holmes opened fire at a midnight screening Friday.

"My prayers and deepest sympathies are with the victims and their families of this horrific act.," fellow castmember Gary Oldman told the web site TooFab in a statement earlier Saturday.
Their comments follow those from Christopher Nolan, the director of "The Dark Knight Rises," who on Thursday night called the shootings an "appalling crime" and said that his thoughts are with the victims and their families.
"Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of 'The Dark Knight Rises,' I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community," Nolan's statement said in part. "I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie.
