Hot off a hilarious turn in Sony's "This Is the End," Danny McBride has signed on to join Bradley Cooper in Cameron Crowe's next movie, TheWrap has learned.
Emma Stone and Rachel McAdams also star in the Sony film, which Scott Rudin is producing with writer-director Crowe.
The project is rumored to be a revamped version of Crowe's old script "Deep Tiki," which had been slated to star Ben Stiller.
An individual familiar with the project tells TheWrap that Cooper will play a defense contractor supervisor assigned to oversee the launch of a weapon satellite from Hawaii. Stone will play his Air Force liaison — a pretty, ambitious pilot — and together the duo become convinced by mystical island forces and a talking computer to help scuttle the satellite's orbit.

McBride's role is being kept under wraps and while the foul-mouthed star of HBO's "Eastbound & Down" may strike some as an odd choice to work with Crowe, the director has gambled on funny actors before, casting Jay Mohr in "Jerry Maguire" and Jason Lee in "Vanilla Sky."
McBride will soon be seen reprising his beloved role as Kenny Powers on the final season (for real this time!) of "Eastbound & Down," as well as in HBO's original movie "Clear History," which stars Larry David and Jon Hamm. He's also been busy behind the camera, serving as executive producer on David Gordon Green's "Joe" starring Nicolas Cage and Rick Alverson's Sundance movie "The Comedy." He's repped by CAA.

The news was first reported by the Huffington Post's Christopher Rosen in an interview with Cooper to promote the DVD release of "The Place Beyond the Pines.
