Danny Boyle to Receive London Film Festival Honor

The “127 Hours” director is “shocked, flattered and delighted”

danny boyleThe London Film Festival said Wednesday that "127 Hours" director Danny Boyle will receive a fellowship from the British Film Institute, the organization's highest honor.

"127 Hours" is also the fest's closing film this year.

"I am shocked, flattered and delighted to receive the fellowship on behalf of everyone who has helped me make the films, the successful ones and the not so successful ones, and on behalf of all the runts in every litter," Boyle said in a statement.

His "Slumdog Millionaire" screened at the 2008 festival before going on to win eight Academy Awards, includng best picture.

Also Wednesday, the festival revealed the 12 titles on its best film shortlist. Besides "127 Hours," they include Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan," Mike Leigh's "Another Year," and fellow early Oscar hopefuls "Never Let Me Go" and "The King's Speech."

The London Film Festival runs Oct. 13-28.
