Danish Siddiqui, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist for Reuters, was killed Friday in Afghanistan while on assignment. The news organization, citing an Afghan commander, said the chief photographer died covering a clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban fighters. Reuters could not independently confirm what happened, but reported a Taliban spokesperson said that group was unaware there was a journalist at the site of the clash.

“We are urgently seeking more information, working with authorities in the region,” Reuters President Michael Friedenberg and editor in chief Alessandra Galloni said Friday. “Danish was an outstanding journalist, a devoted husband and father, and a much-loved colleague.
