Starz has ordered a second season of “Dangerous Liaisons,” days ahead of its series premiere on Nov. 6.
Alice Englert (“The Power Of The Dog”) and Nicholas Denton (“Glitch”) play literary lovers-slash-enemies Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont. The series imagines a prelude to Laclos’ 18th-century novel in which the pair meet in Paris and have a passionate affair on the cusp of the French Revolution. The couple must rely on their manipulation of the French nobility and themselves to survive: Camille (Englert) is taken in by the current Marquise (played by Lesley Manville) while Valmont chases after a title that was recently stripped from him.
The series also stars Kosar Ali, Carice van Houten, Hilton Pelser, Fisayo Akinade, Michael McElhatton, Nathanael Saleh, Colette Dalal Tchantcho, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Tom Wlaschiha, and Paloma Faith.
Season 2 is expected to begin shooting in early 2023 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Kathryn Busby, Starz president of original programming, added: “‘Dangerous Liaisons’ is addictive, provocative and beautifully rendered. This prelude to the famed 18th-century novel illuminates pre-revolution Paris at its most decadent. We are confident that by the end of season one viewers will be craving more scheming and seduction.”
“Les Liaisons dangereuses” has previously been adapted for the stage and screen several times, most notably for the 1988 film “Dangerous Liaisons” starring Glenn Close and the 1999 teen drama “Cruel Intentions.”
The series is produced for Starz by Playground and Flame Ventures in association with Lionsgate Television. It was created and written by Harriet Warner, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer. In addition to Warner, Colin Callender (Playground), Tony Krantz (Flame Ventures), Scott Huff, and Christopher Hampton will continue to serve as executive producers on season two. Liz Gill has been added as Producer and Olly Blackburn will return to direct in Season 2.
