Do the clothes make the film?
That's the question DailyCandy will attempt to answer as the women's lifestyle site teams up with Tribeca Enterprises on a multi-platform event around the subject of "Fashion in Film."
From Grace Kelly's glamorous evening gowns in "To Catch a Thief" to Daniel Craig's barely there bathing trunks in "Casino Royale," the world of celluloid and haute couture are inextricably stitched together.
"So much of creating the aura of a film — its believability — comes from the quality of its costumes and the craft and art that go into creating the dresses and hats that well-known actors wear," DailyCandy General Manager Alison Moore told TheWrap.

"The Great Gatsby," "Moulin Rouge!" and "Grey Gardens" are just a few of the titles that will be highlighted in an event that will include free panels and exhibitions that are open to the public, as well as articles, interviews and social media contests that are geared at DailyCandy readers.
An exhibition of Oscar-winning costumer Catherine Martin‘s designs from "The Great Gatsby" will be on display at Tribeca Cinemas on Sept. 19 and 20, along with live panel discussions featuring Martin, fashion icon Iris Apfel, and Oscar-nominated documentarian Albert Maysles.
The event will also include screenings of Martin's films and fashion-focused documentaries like "Valentino The Last Emperor" and "The Director."
Moore said that DailyCandy is readying a list of editorial offerings to complement the panels and exhibits. Those will include interviews with Martin and Apfel; time lapse video of the Gatsby costumes being set up; a top 10 fashion films slideshow in partnership with Tribeca; and five “Shop the Screen” articles, which will show readers how to buy outfits and "looks" from famous movies.
"We want this to be about accessibility and engagement and we want every component to have some sort of interactivity," Moore said.

Parallel to the “Fashion in Film” event, DailyCandy and Instagram will allow readers to upload their 15-second short videos outlining what inspires their approach to fashion. Three winners from the submissions will be selected and will receive a $1,000 prize.
Moore argues that sites like DailyCandy and fashion blogs are making an art form that had once been reserved for the elite, more democratic in nature.
"Fashion is not exclusive, it's inclusive," Moore said. "It's about self-expression. It's about finding your own unique voice."
The site, which Moore said commands an audience of 6 million readers, recently wrapped up a redesign in June. The DailyCandy general manager said she hopes that "Fashion in Film" will be the first of many themed events.
"This is the next milestone for us," Moore said.
