In its second week atop the Netflix Top 10, “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” has cracked the streamer’s English language Most Popular List and has become the second most-watched English language series in a week, after only “Stranger Things 4.”
The controversy-riddled limited series, about the infamous serial killer of the same name (portrayed by Emmy winner Evan Peters) and from Ryan Murphy, has topped the English TV List for two weeks in a row; from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2, the true crime show — which has drawn harsh censure from the families of Dahmer’s victims — hit nearly 300 million hours viewed.
Overall, “Dahmer” entered the Most Popular List in ninth place after just 12 days with 496.05 million hours viewed. When dividing the overall hours viewed by the series’ runtime, Netflix estimates the show has reached 56 million households. For context, the streamer’s top series, “Squid Game,” reached 62 million households in the same timeframe, while “Bridgerton” Season 2 reached 53 million in the same span of time.
Last week, it was revealed that Netflix removed the LGBTQ tag from the fictionalized show following intense social media backlash, as people decried the placing of the category on a title that depicts the murders of queer folk. (The majority of Dahmer’s victims were gay men of color.) Immediate relatives of Dahmer’s victims also admonished Netflix for greenlighting the show without consulting them, stating that the series is “retraumatizing” to their experiences.
