“CSI” co-creator Carol Mendelsohn is moving to Universal Television after four years with Sony with a new overall deal.

Under the pact, Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz, an executive at Carol Mendelsohn Productions, will develop new projects for the studio.

“Writer/producers of the caliber of Carol Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz don’t come along that often and I am proud they have chosen to call Universal Television home,” said Pearlena Igbokwe, president, Universal Television.

Mendelsohn co-created “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” alongside Anthony Zuiker in 2000, serving as showrunner for 14 seasons. She also co-created the CBS franchise’s spinoffs, “CSI: Miami,” “CSI: New York” and the short-lived, “CSI: Cyber.” While at Sony, Mendelsohn’s company produced NBC’s “Game of Silence,” which itself was a co-production between Sony TV and Universal TV. The NBC drama only ran for one season.

“We’re excited to be in business with such a creative and accomplished group of women,” said Mendelsohn.

The news for Sony comes after the studio managed to keep one of its prolific TV producers — “Better Call Saul” co-creator Vince Gilligan — under its roof.
