No, Michelle Pfeiffer is not retiring any time soon. The actress made sure to fully debunk that rumor on Thursday night, while appearing “The Tonight Show,” calling it “the most ridiculous thing.”
Earlier this month, during a panel alongside other female stars on Apple TV, Pfeiffer noted that “I never want to star in another movie, I swear to God.” That quickly was interpreted as the actress announcing her retirement from the big screen. So, Jimmy Fallon checked in with her about it.
“No! I mean, it’s the most ridiculous thing,” she said as the NBC host pulled up several headlines touting her retirement.
“They’re always saying that I’m retiring,” she lamented. “I never said — no. Where does it say ‘I’m retiring?’ No! No, all I said was I really love working with an ensemble cast.”
Indeed, Pfeiffer said on that same panel that “I only want to do ensemble pieces. It’s so much more fun.” But, Fallon needled her further, jokingly insisting that she did, in fact, plainly state her retirement plans.
“I knew the minute it came out of my mouth, and I said something about ‘I never want to star in another movie,’ and they took that out of context,” she said. “And of course I want to star in another movie!”
But, Pfeiffer reiterated that, after starring in “Oh. What. Fun.”, “The Madison” and “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” back to back to back, she really is enjoying ensemble work.
