Drake Doremus' indie romance "Like Crazy" will screen as the opening-night film at the seventh annual Film Independent Forum, Film Independent announced Wednesday.
The annual forum for independent filmmakers, which is staged by Film Independent and presented by indieWIRE, will take place the weekend of Oct. 21-23 at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles.
Speakers and panelists will include directors Patty Jenkins, Lisa Leeman, Mike Ott, Jeremy Podeswa and Mark and Michael Polish; producers Laura Bickford, Gina Kwon and Alan Poul; executives Matthew Greenfield and Sara Bernstein; exhibitor Greg Laemmle and agent Peter Trinh, as well as executives from media, crowd-funding and internet distribution companies.
"Like Crazy" stars Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin in a story of first love. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in January and is currently screening in Toronto. It will be released in Oct. 28 by Paramount Vantage.
The film will screen at the Film Independent Forum at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, and will be followed by a Q&A and then a reception with Doremus and his co-writer, producers, editor and cinematographer.
Topics for panels at the forum include indie film financing, crowdfunding, legal issues, film festivals and DIY distribution. The full list of speakers and other information can be found at FilmIndependent.org.
Film Independent is the non-profit arts organization best known for presenting the Film Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival.
The company also runs the Film Independent at LACMA Film Series at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The inaugural program, featuring Elvis Mitchell as curator and Jason Reitman as a director of a live reading of "The Breakfast Club," was announced earlier this week and will kick off with the world premiere of Johnny Depp's "The Rum Diary."
