“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” producers have a few surprises up their sleeves for Season 3.

The CW musical series’ co-creators spoke to reporters during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Wednesday, where showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna teased that a big-name guest star might be making an appearance in the near future.

“We are talking to someone for an episode for the first half of the season that we’re thrilled about,” she said.

Star Rachel Bloom acknowledged that the show hasn’t had as many celebrity cameos as she would have liked. Previous guests on the Golden Globe-winning show have included Patti LuPone, Seth Green, Amber Riley, Patton Oswalt and Ricki Lake.

“It is so hard to get guest stars to do the show,” Bloom said.

McKenna explained that the quick turnaround for episodes doesn’t leave a lot of opportunities for cameos.

“Because we do what we do on such a fast schedule, we don’t have a lot of latitude in terms of scheduling,” she said. “So if we want someone to be on our show, it’s got to be Tuesday at 11 a.m. — that’s all we got. It’s very difficult when people are famous.”

She also pointed out that sometimes celebrities will turn down guest roles that the writers cook up.

“Occasionally, you will write a part, and they’ll be like, ‘Not that part,’” McKenna said.

Bloom added to the crowd with a laugh: “Do you know anyone? Please make sure that anyone who is famous who wants to be on the show gets in touch with us.”

“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” returns for Season 3 on Oct. 13 on The CW.
