‘Up,’ ‘The Cove’ Win Genesis Awards

Oscar-winning animated feature and documentary win for depiction of animal issues

The Oscar winning animated feature "Up" and documentary "The Cove" picked up more awards on Saturday night at the Humane Society’s annual Genesis Awards, which honor media depictions of animal-protection issues.

"Up," the Pixar feature that includes talking dogs and a fight to protect a rare species of bird, shared the award for feature film with the significantly less successful "Hotel for Dogs," a comedy with Lisa Kudrow and Don Cheadle. Both films were honored for offering "meaningful messages about the importance of the human-animal bond."

"The Cove" was termed "a searing indictment of Japan’s dolphin slaughter."

Other winners included the TV series "Family Guy, "Bones," "The Today Show" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
