Last week, "The Hangover" actress Sasha Barrese revealed to E! Online that someone "unbelievable" will be making a very unexpected cameo in "The Hangover 2." "It's the best cameo you've ever seen in your entire life," she said." "It's a guy, [but] that's all I'm going to say. It's the best."
Well, that will depend on who you ask, as TheWrap has learned that controversial Oscar winner Mel Gibson will appear in a small role in Todd Phillips' raucous Warner Bros. sequel.
Gibson's big screen comeback will begin with a cameo as a Bangkok tattoo artist in "The Hangover 2," an individual familiar with the project has confirmed to TheWrap.
The New York Post first reported Gibson's cameo, saying the actor will film his role in two weeks, either on a Bangkok set on the Warner Bros. lot or (less likely) on location in Thailand, where production is scheduled to take place at the end of October.
Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha are all returning for the raunchy, globe-trotting sequel, which follows the gang to Thailand as they make a dangerous stop in Bangkok, where Asian gangster Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong) is expected to cause trouble for his former captors.
E! Online recently reported that Heather Graham will not be reprising her role as Helms' Las Vegas stripper love interest, and a rep for Warner Bros. apparently confirmed the actress' absence from the sequel, citing "the way the story unfolds doesn't allow any room for her character to show up."
Just as the original "Hangover" rehabilitated Mike Tyson's public image, "The Hangover 2" could go a long way towards repairing Gibson's reputation and winning his fans back.
Gibson has been accused of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend Oksana Griegorieva, but the Los Angeles district attorney is reportedly still deciding whether to charge him.
Gibson next stars in Jodie Foster's "The Beaver," which Summit Entertainment has not yet assigned a release date. He has appeared in cameos in the past, including an uncredited turn as Scott the Body Piercer in the 1997 Robin Williams-Billy Crystal comedy "Father's Day."
"The Hangover" made $467 million on a production budget of just $35 million.
